Job Title:                         Brighter Dental Clinical Lead Dental Nurse         

Salary:                             Starting salary £21,920 progressing up to £27,270 per annum

Hours:                             37.5hrs (full time)  

Responsible and            Brighter Dental Area Manager

accountable to:              Head of Nursing and Quality

Location:                        Newquay Hospital and all Brighter Dental Locations across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Line management responsibilities:

This clinical leadership role has direct line management responsibility for the Dental Nursing and Receptionist Support teams for Brighter Dental Ltd, throughout Cornwall.

Role summary:

The post holder will provide clinical team leadership for the dental nursing workforce and be responsible for the consistent delivery of high quality dental care and administrative support provided by the teams in clinic locations across the county.

This post is a developmental role due to the growth of Brighter Dental Ltd, and emerging opportunities within the company, and represents an exciting career progression opportunity for an experienced dental nurse seeking management responsibility.

The post holder must ensure that clinics for which they are responsible run efficiently and smoothly, that any changes are successfully implemented and monitored, and that the dental nursing workforce and Receptionists are providing appropriate support for the Dentists in each location.

The post holder will:  

  • Provide Clinical Support for 3 days per week at Brighter Dental in Newquay Hospital and 2 days per week working in the clinical lead role
  • Organise rosters, approval of annual leave and sickness cover for Brighter Dental Staff
  • Arrange and undertake regular clinic visits, audits and clinical supervision observation sessions
  • Maintain a robust system for the servicing, repairs and maintenance of the dental equipment and stock control to maximize the efficiency of the running of the clinics
  • Oversee recruitment of new and retention of existing dental nursing staff, and undertake annual appraisals, PDP's as well as back to work interviews, sickness reviews and absence reporting
  • Be required to monitor clinic budgets and work within those budgets for repairs and maintenance as well as the ordering of consumables
  • Produce information from the monitoring of incidents, feedback, repairs of equipment etc for the Head of Nursing and Quality for inclusion into the annual Quality Report and monthly reporting requirements.
  • Ensure all policies, protocols and guidelines are being implemented and followed, developing new policies as required by the organisation for improving the quality of care in the dental locations
  • Complete risk assessments and action plans when a risk is identified
  • Provide advice on training and development and operational support as required
  • Become an essential member of Smile Together's Junior Management Team
  • Engage with the Area Manager in the performance and reporting of the Brighter Dental's key performance indicators

Knowledge,Education and Training:

  • Registered Dental Nurse with GDC
  • Post registration certificates
  • Experience of a wide range of dental procedures acquired through training and clinical experience
  • Some experience in leadership and management would be an advantage
  • An understanding of dealing with incidents
  • Evidence of professional/personal development
  • Knowledge of equality and diversity rights
  • Knowledge of all dental related policies
  • Knowledge of HR policies and experience in dealing with difficult situations and handling low level investigations with HR support
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety, risk assessments and action plans
  • Good IT skills
  • Trained to recognise and respond to medical emergencies (ie Immediate Life Support techniques)
  • Good time management and able to work within time frames
  • Can work using own initiative and without direct supervision
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, written/verbal and non-verbal
  • Flexible and have the ability to travel around the county
